Our Programs

Kids & Youth Academy

Our offer for all Children and Teenagers in the age of 2½ to 19 years.

To guarantee our high level of education, all classes run throughout the whole year and attendance is mandatory. In the first lesson or during trial lesson each pupil is placed according to their level to ensure an uniform education level.

In our classes you will learn and deepen the relevant dance techniques. Based on the learned, together with your class mates you will prepare 1-2 choreographies for the recital in the Theater Akzent. Your friends and relatives will be excited by what you can achieve in just 2 semesters!

Our Kids & Youth Academy is also the ideal preparation for the audition of our Competition Team.

Competition Team

Our Competition Teams are for those that want to train even more intensive. Our team prepares you for national and international championships.

Admission criteria for the Competition Team is the passed Audition at the beginning of September and a successful participation in the Contest Intensive Workshops in the first two weeks of September.

Adult & Professional Program

Our Adult & Professional Program is aimed at two groups:

Dancers as of 16 years, with no or little experience book our classes for the whole year and learn the techniques of the relevant dance style. They prepare a choreography which they perform at the recital in Theater Akzent.

NEW as of 2019: Our Flatrate allows to visit all our Adult & Professional classes for only EUR 360 per semester!

Professionals and very experiences dancers use our classes to perfect their technique to be prepared for the next audition. Due to regular engagements of these professionals we offer flexible dance cards for 10 lessons. Are you training to become professional dancer or musical performer or are you a certified dancer or musical performer, then ask for our discount for professionals.

Our Classes

NEW: Irish Dance

Irish Dance

Irish dance or Irish dancing is a traditional Gaelic or Celtic dance form that originated in Ireland. It can be performed as a solo or in groups of up to twenty or more trained dancers. In Ireland, Irish dance is part of social dancing or may be for formal performances and competitions.

It is performed traditionally with intricate foot work and is most known for the dancers performing with a stiff upper body. Unlike other dance forms, Irish dancers do not move their arms or hands so that footwork is accented.

Combi • “Fun with Dance”

Young children today are full of energy and need the possibility to move and be creative. Our Combi Class is the perfect entry into the world of show dance for our youngest pupils. This playful class is a beautiful mixture of Ballet, Jazz, Acrobatics and Tap dancing.

The class structure is beginning with a fun warm up. Once the body is warm we’ll go into stretching and learning the basics of Acrobatics (bridge, front and back rolls, handstand, cartwheel…). The third part of the class they’ll learn Ballet basics (Positions, Pliés, Tendus, Chassées…). The class will continue with a Musical Jazz Choreography and end with Tap Dancing (Shoes available to borrow in the KBC).

Note from Kristina Decker, owner of Kristina’s Broadway Connection: The reason I created this class, is that children at such a young age have a hard time to focus on one style of dance for an entire hour. The Combi Class gives the child a chance to try everything out and decide later where their heart is best suited. Many of our young dancers have continued at age six to take one or all four class styles. Some have become such huge Dance Fans that they’ve joined our Mini Competition Team. We look forward to seeing you at our next class!

In our Song & Dance Combi Class we combine the movements also with singing.

Ballet

Classical Ballet is the foundation for almost every dance style. In our classes we teach the proper posture and lines. Our Creadance and Jazz Ballet classes combine classical ballet training with current rhythm from Musicals or Pop music. Point / Spitzentanz strengthens your feet and extends your lines.

Due to the importance of excellent ballet training, we offer these classes for all age groups and levels.

Tap

Next to ballet, tap dance is a classical style of show dance. Today’s tap dance has gone in a completely new direction. Big dance companies like Tapdogs, Stomp or Bootmen present tap dance not only as a dance style but also as a manner of making music.

Broadway Tap features the dancing elements in the traditions of legends like Gene Kelly, Fred Astair, Ginger Rogers or Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson. Simple show elements, great arm movements and choreographies to the famous Musical tunes of “42nd Street” or “Anything Goes”.

Next to the classical tap techniques and steps, we teach you also how to improv your tap in line with the rhythm.

Jazz / Jazz Fusion

Jazz Dance is a form of contemporary dance born in the USA. In the beginning the musical base was the Jazz music; today it’s usually danced with Pop/Charts music. During the years different styles of Jazz Dance were developed, like the challenging Broadway Jazz (e.g. Bob Fosse), the Latin Jazz, Street Jazz, etc.

Next to our regular Jazz classes, as Vienna’s First Show School we also offer Broadway and Musical Jazz classes. Here you can learn choreographies from shows like “Wicked”, “Dance of the Vampires”, “Fame”, “A Chorus Line”, etc.

Jazz Fusion is a fast-paced style of dance. This genre incorporates Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical and Contemporary Techniques into the warm up and routines. Since one must have knowledge in all styles the level is usually for Intermediate to Advanced Dancers.

African Jazz Contemporary

Afro Latin Jazz

Afro Latin Jazz is the earliest form of dance combining African Drum rhythms and movement with Latin American Spiced Salsa Dancing. This vivacious mixture is combined with Jazz and Contemporary Techniques.

Contemporary / Contemporary Fusion

Contemporary Dance, is a combination of strong and controlled legwork of Ballet, while also incorporationg contract-release, fall and recovery and improvisation chararcteristics of Modern Dance.

Contemporary Partnering / Contact Improvisation

Contemporary Partnering & Contact Improvisation

Contact Improvisation plays with the artistry of falling off balance, counterbalance, finding the shelves of the body, learning the mechanics of the body in order to handle someone else‘s weight or be lifted, breathing techniques, and can involve the art of getting to know your partner past the physical point through the physicality.

Lyrical Contemporary

Lyrical Dance fuses styles such as Ballet, Modern & Jazz Dance and is performed to music with Lyrics to inspire movements and express strong emotions.

Acrobatic

Acrobatic Dance is the combination of modern dance and acrobatic movements, which has been developed as show dance for the stage.

Under professional supervision you train flexibility, strength, speed, coordination and balance.

Your friends and family will cheer, when they see you making handstand, wheel, flick flack, aerials and many other tricks.

Hip Hop / Urban

The urban dance styles developed as part of the Hip Hop culture in the 70s in the big US cities, especially in New York City. Hip Hop includes elements of breaking, locking or popping. Many TV-shows and movies promoted the Hip Hop dance style and it is now part of many stage shows.

Freestyle Hip Hop and the “Dance Battles” are crowd pleasers at every dance competition.

In our Hip Hop classes we teach the most important dance moves, so that you can be the centre on the dance floor.

Burlesque Jazz

Burlesque Jazz is an interesting dance style for women, who would like to sex up their dance moves. It combines dance styles like Go-Go, R’n’B and Jazz Funk.

The classes include warm-up and stretching, as well as the dance techniques to improve body control, coordination and balance. Start moving, Girls!

Commercial

Commercial Hip Hop or Jazz is the kind of show dance that is used in many music videos, TV- and stage shows. This style was developed by dancers like Wade Robson, Brian Friedman, Fatima Robinson, etc. in the late 90s.

In these technically challenging classes we focus on expression and performance to impress the audience.

Musical Theatre Class

This new innovative Musical Theatre Course combines dance with singing and acting. Every few months you learn to sing and dance along songs from your favourite musical.
